Created in 1990 from an original recipe, Kendal Mint Cake Liqueur is the brainchild of Mike Pennington, who owned Burgundys Wine Bar & Brewhouse in Kendal for over 30 years. Taking inspiration from the legendary Kendal Mint Cake; famous for having been taken to the top of Everest with Sir Edmund Hillary, Mike used his mixing skills to create an alcoholic liqueur from the peppermint cake recipe blended with a hint of smooth chocolate much to the delight of his customers ever since.
He based the flavour on the version of the Mint Cake that he used to make with his Grandfather, Fulton Pennington, who had the recipe handed down from his predecessors. Due to growing demand for the liqueur, a company was set up to deliver the product across the world. Applauded for its ultra clean, smooth and delicious blend of fresh mint and chocolate and loved for its authentic and unique take on the heritage of Kendal Mint Cake, it has become a favourite of locals and visitors to Kendal alike.
