The Lakes Distillery have in recent years released single malt whiskies in two series: “The Editions” and “The Whiskymaker’s Reserve”.  The “Whiskymaker’s Reserve” series is the heart and core of the whisky production at the distillery with a heavy sherry influence, whilst the “Editions” have been released to demonstrate the capability of the distillery to explore the artistic nature of the whisky making and blending process.

The Lakes Whiskymaker’s Reserve No.4 is a supremely balanced and complex single malt whisky, matured in the finest, meticulously sourced Oloroso, PX and red wine casks, and bottled at 52% ABV.

The nose is rich with Manuka honey, sun-dried dates and roasted cashew nuts; layers of dried fruits, nuts and spice on the palate create a long and vibrant finish.

The Whiskymaker’s Reserve is an artistic exploration of our sherry-led house style. The whisky maker defines the architecture of each release as he unlocks infinite variables and never-ending flavour possibilities.

The Lakes practises holistic whisky making, with the whisky maker at the helm throughout the journey through the distillery and beyond. His single-minded focus at every stage provides continuity of character; their assurance that every flavour possibility is achieved.

That idea of distilling being distinct individual elements is not how a whisky maker looks at the art. Rather it is part of a continuum, a net of possibilities where everything is interlinked. Change one element and the effect will change everything else. Only by understanding how flavours are created throughout the journey through the distillery will the whisky maker fully comprehend the possibilities. That is why at The Lakes, unusually, our whisky maker Dhavall Gandhi is actively involved at every stage. It is holistic whisky making.
