Description

GlenAllachie Peated Bourbon Barrel

GlenAllachie are delighted to present their sixth batch of UK exclusive single casks, each demonstrating the unique interaction of the wood, spirit, and subsequent flavour extension. Billy Walker is leading the way with innovation and is passionate about experimenting with unorthodox cask types, one of which being a GlenAllachie Peated Bourbon barrel.

After initial aging in a fresh ex-Bourbon cask before being re-racked into a first-fill sherry hogshead, the spirit was then transfered into an American oak cask which had previously held a heavily peated spirit distilled at GlenAllachie. The result is a deliciously smoky spirit balanced by their classic heather honeyed character.

Bottled at 60.1%, unchilfiltered and natural colour, only 254 bottles are available at specialist retailers throughout the UK.

Golden Sunset.

Layers of smoked pine nuts, ginger and cigar box, followed by heather honey, soft spice and burnt brown sugar.

Lashings of butterscotch, ginger and toasted almonds, with delicate notes of caramelised sugar, dark chocolate and black pepper.

The GlenAllachie Distillery was the fourth distillery designed by William-Delme Evans and built by Mackinlay McPherson (distilling arm of Scottish and Newcastle). It was designed to be almost full gravity fed to run on reduced energy. In February 1968, the distillery began its first production run with the capacity of producing almost three million litres of alcohol. Operations began with two stills and increased to four after just six months.

Mackinlay McPherson became part of Invergordon and the distillery was mothballed in this year. Campbell Distillers (later part of Pernod Ricard) acquired The GlenAllachie Distillery and production recommenced on April 24th – this was the start of 29 years of uniterrupted production. The Distillery was branded as the Home of Clan Campbell Whisky. Appanrelty the inventory of the Distillery listed the ducks in the waters above the dam.

Chivas Brothers launched a Glenallachie single malt whisky as part of the Cask Edition Series. It was a 15 year old whisky from sherry casks distilled in 1989 when the distillery was bought and reopened by Pernod Ricard. Billy Walker, Trisha Savage and Graham Stevenson cam toegther to acquire the GlenAllachie Distillery and from The GlenAllachie Distillers Complany Limted, bringing them over 100 years of industry knwoledge and expertise.
