The Lakes Single Malt Quatrefoil Collection.

The Lakes Distillery have in recent years released single malt whiskies in two series: “The Editions” and “The Whiskymaker’s Reserve”. The “Whiskymaker’s Reserve” series is the heart and core of the whisky production at the distillery with a heavy sherry influence, whilst the “Editions” have been released to demonstrate the capability of the distillery to explore the artistic nature of the whisky making and blending process. 

The Quatrefoil Collection provides a unique opportunity to experience individual flavours derived from specific oak species and sherry varieties.

Each bottle within the Quatrefoil Collection highlights the individual flavours, which, when blended together reflects the house style of The Lakes Single Malt.  The collection showcases their distinctive sherry-led maturation philosophy, demonstrating the wide flavour spectrum the use of American or Spanish oak can offer. Dhavall has meticulously selected the finest and rarest casks available to create this exclusive collection.

The entire collection (limited to only 1,000 collections worldwide) is bottled at 55% ABV or above and non-chill filtered to offer a richer mouthfeel and full depth of flavour.

As with all single malt whisky from The Lakes Distillery, they add no colourants so the collection truly reflects the natural colour variation that comes from the use of American and Spanish oak. 

The Lakes practises holistic whisky making, with the whiskymaker at the helm throughout the journey through the distillery and beyond. His single-minded focus at every stage provides continuity of character; their assurance that every flavour possibility is achieved. 

The idea of distilling being distinct individual elements is not how a whiskymaker looks at the art. Rather it is part of a continuum, a net of possibilities where everything is interlinked. Change one element and the effect will change everything else. Only by understanding how flavours are created throughout the journey through the distillery will the whiskymaker fully comprehend the possibilities. This is why at The Lakes, unusually, whiskymaker Dhavall Gandhi is actively involved at every stage. It is holistic whisky making.
