The Hearach is the first, historic single malt whisky from our island distillery and the Isle of Harris. Like the iconic Harris Tweed cloth created here for generations, our first historic whisky is woven from the hands of island people and the place we call home, intimately intertwining to produce an elegant spirit of complexity and character. This special connection between people and place continues to this day with every drop of The Hearach created by Isle of Harris hands here in the Outer Hebrides. Our recipe uses spirit matured in ex-bourbon casks, oloroso and fino butts.

“On the nose I get melted sugar which takes me to childhood memories of my mum making tablet for local charity fairs. The smokiness is very gentle and reminds me of past Sunday nights and toasting bread on the open peat fire, long before S’mores reached Harris! The dram itself evokes “first-footing” as a child and getting a glass of sherry and slice of fruit cake, no doubt also doused in sherry. There’s a sweet almond note too. There’s apple in there – my aunt brought us some from her son’s tree recently and it’s the same freshness and aroma. Finally, I get spices from my time in Dubai, the Arabic coffees, dates, nuts, and the elusive ‘oud’ smell that you often get wandering around the souks…”
