A fortuitous accident
Tim and Luke – two Cumbrian friends – had always enjoyed making the most of their home-county, spending their days hiking the fells and exploring the countryside. After a stint doing charity work in Romania, a fellow worker from Sweden turned them onto muesli, and on their return to the UK they started toasting their own oats to fuel their outdoor excursions. Everything was made in their own kitchens, sweetened with just the right amount of honey.
When Luke broke his collar bone in a mountain bike accident, he had plenty of time to sit around and think. And it was during this time that he and Tim started seriously considering making their own muesli creations available to the general public. Realising they were onto something, the pair grabbed a spot at a popular market in the Lake District town of Keswick, where their home-made luxury muesli was an immediate success. From there, Lakeland Mues was born and has only grown in popularity over the years.
