A family affair

Country Flavour started – as you’d expect – in the country, specifically at The Herb Farm, a business run by Chris’s parents since 1948. Though the farm originally grew herbs, in the ‘60s fudge was added. Then, as the business grew, herb jellies and lemon cheeses were added to the stock. It was when Chris and Jo moved to Kirkby Stephen that the selection of jams and jellies really took off, and they now sell over 40 types and flavours of condiment.

Stephen, the couple’s son, was, from a young age, familiar with the making process, having attended markets since birth and worked in the kitchen during school holidays. When he was old enough, he started putting his own mark on the business. It’s a real family affair!

A taste of the country

From the jars to the tastes, Country Flavour has stayed true to its roots, using traditional recipes and simple, no-fuss labels. They are reminiscent of traditional country fairs and are bound to summon up some memories of youthful days sampling spoonfuls of jam in your own kitchen. When you spread marmalade onto a morning slice of toast, or when you sample a generous dollop of mint jelly with your lamb dinner, you’ll feel as if you’re sitting in a traditional farmhouse kitchen of days gone by.
