Caroline Goodwin

Meet Caroline Goodwin

Always a smile and a warm welcome. Thanks to her hospitality background, if you want to talk about wine, then Caroline the one who knows most. Always front of house, you’ll often find her working alongside Darren – they’re one heck of a team.

Favourite tipple:  hard to pick, but I do have a top three: for something dry, then it’s the Lakes Classic, for a flavoured gin I love Copper in the Clouds Raspberry & Lychee, and for its citrus and pepper taste, our own Cumberland Saucy Gin.

Takeaway tea break choice: Coffee with a slice of  Traybakes Salted Caramel Brownie

Supper off the shelf:  Any sausage of the month from Low Howgill. I love everything we get from them and they are a lovely family who deliver to us every day.

Fun outside work: catching up with my three kids and getting out with Hugo my 4-year-old Jacksu (Shih tzu x Jack Russel)

More about Caroline:

Before joining us in August 2019, Caroline had built up a great deal of experience in hospitality. She was the manager of a busy bar in Penrith, a restaurant manager in a holiday village complex and at a local dining pub. It’s the perfect background for someone who loves working with people and local food and drink.

Caroline may love wine and prosecco, but she has learned a great deal about gin since she started – and has now sampled over 100 that we stock. So, if you want to know about the botanicals that shine through – Caroline will be able to help you. And if you are fans of unusual bottles – Caroline says the new Lakes Distillery gin bottle, or the Kings Hill bottles are something special.

Factoid: In a previous life Caroline spent 14 years in the research and development team  at Liliput Lane- the miniature handmade models of real English cottages. One was created of the Boat House on Ullswater – who knew Caroline would end up working so close to where one was modelled.

We asked Caroline what’s her favourite part of the job? She said “Just being able to come to work every day during lockdown was a lifesaver. We are very professional in our jobs, but as a team we don’t take ourselves very seriously and we always have a laugh with customers
